Academic Rules

How are Arrears (Back papers) handled?

If you fail a subject (Grade F), it is assigned 0 grade points and significantly lowers your SGPA. Once you clear the arrear in a subsequent attempt, your SGPA for that original semester remains the same, but your **CGPA** is updated using the new passing grade points. GradeMate allows you to update your semester inputs anytime to see your current standing.

What's the difference between R2017 and R2021?

Different regulations have different credit patterns and occasionally different grade-to-point mappings. GradeMate defaults to the modern 10-point system used by R2021, but you can fully customize the points in our **Grading System** settings to match R2017 or any other regulation.

How do I handle Elective courses?

Elective courses should be treated exactly like core subjects. Simply add a new row in the SGPA calculator, enter the specific credits for that elective (usually 3 or 4), and select your grade. The weighted average logic handles the rest automatically.

Calculator Logic

How accurate is the Grade Predictor?

The Grade Predictor is highly accurate as it uses the exact mathematical formulas from university regulations. It calculates the minimum required marks out of 100 in the End Sem exam to reach specific grade thresholds (S, A+, etc.) based on your internal CIA marks.

Why does my SGPA differ from the official result?

A difference usually occurs due to: 1) Incorrectly entered credits for a subject, 2) Misunderstanding the grading scale of your specific regulation, or 3) Including non-credit courses. Double-check your grade sheet and ensure the "Grading System" tab in GradeMate matches your college rules.

What do RA, AB, and RI actually mean?

These are special statuses:
**RA**: Re-Appearance (due to lack of attendance).
**AB**: Absent from the End Semester Exam.
**RI**: Re-Appearance in Internal (Absent for CIA exams).
All of these are treated as 0 grade points in GPA calculations until the course is cleared.

Features & Tools

How do I save my results as a PDF or Image?

After calculating your GPA, click the **'Export Report'** button. GradeMate will generate a professional, high-resolution snapshot of your results which you can save directly to your gallery or print as a PDF for your records.

Can I use GradeMate offline?

Yes! Once you have visited GradeMate, your browser caches the essential files. More importantly, your data is stored in **LocalStorage**, meaning your inputs remain saved even if you close the tab or lose internet connection.

How do I suggest a new feature or report a bug?

We love hearing from our users! Head over to the **'Feedback'** link in the navigation menu to fill out a quick form. Our developers review all suggestions every week to keep GradeMate evolving.

Privacy & Trust

Is my data shared with my college?

Absolutely not. GradeMate is an independent tool. We don't have a database; all your marks and calculations live and stay **exclusively on your device**. Neither the developer nor your college can see your data.

Is GradeMate an official application?

GradeMate is a student-developed companion app. While we strive for 100% accuracy, results should be used for planning and tracking purposes only. Always refer to your official university portal for your legal academic record.
